Last weekend was a great weekend for the team! The Milwaukee Sailboat Racing Club at UWM took first place for the second year in a row at the Davis Cup Regatta, hosted by University of Iowa Sailing.
Ben Otten and Hannah Noll took first place in A-Division as well. In B-Division, Autumn Morden and Brittan Keck placed in 3rd; they were winning their fleet until the last two races.
It was a weekend of crazy weather! It varied from breeze on and pouring rain to 0 wind with a cloudless sky. On rainy Saturday, the wind shifted from S to SE with speeds varying from 10-20 mph throughout the day. On Sunday, we immediately and indefinitely went into postponement because of winds 0-2 mph.
On day 1 of racing, the wind blew a shifty 7-12 mph. The day started out warm, with the words “Sun’s out, Guns out” being thrown around. On Sunday, day 2 of racing, the weather wasn’t as positive as Saturday, with rain falling on and off throughout the day. The wind was extremely variable, shifting from the Southeast to the Northeast and fluctuating from 3-10 mph. The Race Committee did a great job; it was a very positive experience overall. Good times were had by all.
A huge thank you to Ben Reiland and Beth Logemann of Wisco for housing us this weekend.

Thursday, September 17th at 7:00pm is our Fall Season Kickoff Meeting!
At the meeting, we’ll go over crucial information for joining the team, register with Milwaukee Yacht Club, pay Social or Racing Membership dues, sign up for regattas, introduce socials for the year, and go over our practice schedule together.
If you can’t make it to the Kickoff Meeting, make sure to schedule a 1-on-1 meeting with a Co-Captain in the next few weeks to get oriented with the team. You can contact Co-Captains Autumn Morden at Hannah Noll at (952) 212-7748 & email@example.com.
The Team traveled to the University of Wisconsin Madison last weekend, March 26-28th, 2013. We competed in the 3-Division Regatta hosted by Wisco. 3-Way is a unique regatta because it inludes three total divisions (rather than the usual two): two divisions of 420s and one division of Techs. This whole weekend was sponsored by Red Bull; Wisco Sailors won their weight in Red Bull at the Wisconsin Schlittentag! Big thanks to Dave Elsmo for the coaching session on Friday afternoon.
This weekend we sent two teams from UW-Milwaukee! Our first team, Milwaukee 1, consisted of Ben Otten and Brittan Keck on A-side, Autumn Morden and Perry Spott on B-side, and Gonzalo Couto-Lain on C-side. Milwaukee 2 consisted of Hobie Ponting and Nicole Schmitz on A, Hannah Noll and Tom Firmin on B, and Kendra Lawrence on C.
It was a very slow weekend for the wind. We immediately went into postponement on Saturday, day 1 of racing. The wind picked up just enough after lunch to pick off a few races. A & B Divisions (420s) each raced 4 races, and C Division (Techs) raced 6. On Sunday, the lake was completely glass, so after a few hours of hanging out on the Terrace in Postponement, we had the awards ceremony and hit the road! Out of 12 teams, Milwaukee 1 placed 4th, and Milwaukee 2 placed 12th. You can check out full results here and the MCSA Official Summary here.
Thank you to our friends, Whitney Kent and Mike Lee of UW-Madison, for housing our two teams this weekend!
Don’t let this be you! Come to the Learn To Sail Practice today at 4pm and learn to rig our boats correctly!
On May 5th, we’re hosting an In-House Regatta out of Milwaukee Yacht Club. We’ll be joining forces with Marquette University’s Sailing Team for a fun day of racing on Milwaukee Harbor with tacos for lunch!

Co-Ed Champs @ Columbia Yacht Club, Chicago
This weekend the UW-Milwaukee Panthers competed in the MCSA Co-Ed Championships, a qualifier for Semi-Nationals. Although we did not perform well enough to qualify, we had some great learning experiences.
We practiced out of Columbia Yacht club on Friday; a big thank you goes out to Kurt Thomson for the one-on-one coaching. It was snowing on Saturday when we went out for day 1 of racing. Breeze was extremely shifty from the West ranging 5-20 knots. On Sunday, the breeze clocked around to the East and blew a steady 8-12 knots. See results here.
Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Clark Andrews of Chicago for housing this weekend. As always, #SO to Gino’s East Pizza for filling our stomachs with joy and pizza.

WYW @ Northwestern University
The first regatta of the season was Wet Your Willie at Northwestern University! On A-side we sailed Ben Otten with Hannah Noll and Kendra Lawrence. On B-Side Autumn Morden sailed with Perry Spott, Hobie Ponting, and Orlee Roza.
Overall we placed 6th out of 17 boats. On A-side, we secured 3rd place. See full results and racing conditions here.
Wind conditions varied quite a bit throughout the weekend, starting off on Saturday with breeze from 10-15. The breeze built throughout the day to gusts of up to 18mph, eventually rising too high to sail. Sunday the wind started light and shifty, but built to a steady 10mph from the North.
